and requests for recommendations to me
to faintly smell the wisps of hidden desperation
and the stink of feigned confidence in cover letters
to imagine the money these people
wish they were getting beneath me
to imagine me glancing over their petty papers
with vague attention
words here or there
hoping for some kind of impression
